Can you provide us with a background and
description of the business and your own industry experience?

Jewellery
Plus was established in 1986 by my father, Michael Sullivan. The
original business was mainly focused on low end costume/fashion
jewellery and giftware. We were part of a franchise based out of
Truro N.S. that at one point had over 50
stores. After being involved with the franchisor for a number of
years we decided that the terms of the franchisor was supposed to
follow did not seem to followed as we thought they should be, so we
decided it would be advantageous to buy our way out of the franchise
agreement and continue on independently. |

I joined the company in 1989
and worked there throughout my time at UPEI earning my bachelors
degree in Business Administration. I was part time during the school
year and full time during summer months and around Christmas. In
spring of 1993 I joined the company full time after completing my
degree. By the fall of 1993 we had open-end our first higher end
non-costume focused store in the newly expanded portion of the
Charlottetown Mall. This store flourished until in 2006. After some
hard decisions of how to balance family and business life I decided
to sell my Charlottetown store and focus on
our store in the Summerside market. The commute back and forth
between Summerside and Charlottetown took too much time out of my
day with a new baby at home.

Our store in Summerside is located in the
heart of historic downtown Summerside on the corner of Spring and
Water street in the former National Bank building. We purchased
this building and moved into it in February 2004.
I have
continually upgraded my training through correspondence studies with the
Gemological Institute of America (GIA) I have completed my Insurance Replacement
Appraisal, Diamonds, Diamond Grading, Colored Stones, Colored Stone Grading
Certificates. I have also attended the Canadian Jewelers Institute and received
my Graduate Jeweler Diploma.

Can you describe the services your
organization offers?
We
are PEI’s leading estate, vintage and antique jewellery
dealer. We buy, sell , trade, repair, remount, appraise, custom design and
recycle jewellery. We are not your typical jewellery store, we also buy and sell
all types of old coins, bullion and paper money. And are very knowledgeable
buyers and sellers of vintage and antique watches. We are PEI’s only member of
the largest on-line network for jewelers. This network gives us almost instant
access to over $3.5 billion of fine diamonds, jewellery and watches. The
network also puts me in daily contact with North America’s foremost authorities
on antique jewellery and watches, coin experts and bullion dealers. So if it’s
jewellery, watch or coin related we pretty much can do it all.
