The Company was founded in 1986 by Michael Sullivan (C.A.) . The store was part of a franchise based
out of Truro, Nova Scotia; at one point in time there were over thirty stores operating
under this franchise.
In 1989, Mike realized that belonging to this franchise did not
hold as many advantages as it should, so he bought his way out of the franchise
system which left him with 2 stores in Newfoundland and one store in Charlottetown, PEI.
Later on in that year he acquired two stores in Summerside, PEI, one in the County Fair
Mall and one in the Waterfront Mall.
During 1989 Mike's son, Philip joined the business as a sales person in the
Summerside stores (the County Fair
Mall was closed later that year).
The fall of 1989 Philip went to
U.P.E.I. to obtain a Bachelor of Business
Administration Degree and worked at the Charlottetown Mall Kiosk for four years until
his graduation in the spring of 1993. In October 1993 a second location was opened in Charlottetown at the Charlottetown Mall which
focused more on the mid to high end of the retail jewellery and gift market.
In 1994 the two stores in Newfoundland were sold to their respective managers due to
the logistics of supervising them from P.E.I. This, by far, streamlined the operation.
Early in 1995 it was apparent that the new location in Charlottetown was much more
profitable than the old kiosk and the operation was again streamlined by selling off the Kiosk business
there. This allowed Philip, now the President of JEWELLERY PLUS, more time to focus on the one store in
Charlottetown and the one store in Summerside.
The two stores have continued to grow
and expand their services under the direction of
Philip Sullivan.
With this in mind, it is now time to expand the horizons of JEWELLERY PLUS and take
it into the e-commerce market of on-line sales at "www.jewelleryplus.com".
