Here we have the current generation of Breitling's Avenger GMT design. Dubbed the Avenger Automatic GMT 45 at its 2019 launch, the travel-oriented pilot's watch represented a bold, modern take on the brand's familiar Avenger base design, and features a highly legible dial with ever-practical GMT and date complications.
Since its launch, the Avenger collection has been best known for using Breitling's signature ratcheted bezel with its four projecting "rider tabs." The look was developed to help pilots more easily grip the bezel while wearing gloves. The design was carried on from its initial introduction in the 1980s as part of the original Navitimer Chronomat timepiece (later just Chronomat), at the time representing a firm replacement for the, at that point, technologically outdated slide-rule scale. The signature bezel is now frequently seen as a standard feature within the brand's catalog, notably in this model with a 60-minute scale meant to assist the travel watch with its dive-ready capabilities.
On the wrist, the watch measures a prominent 43mm by 12mm, its action-ready case accented with a knurled crown flanked by two guards, rounded edges on its curved lugs, and primarily polished finishing throughout. The dial is quickly readable, its various time zones displayed via lume-filled pointers, with red accents adding an engaging spark of color to the otherwise no-nonsense aesthetic. Inside, the Breitling caliber 32, based upon the 2893-2, powers the watch and ensures chronometer-grade accuracy for every mission across time zones.
